Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Refreshing yet indulgent, this flavor pairs cool mint with crunchy chocolate shards. It’s a favorite among kids and adults alike.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 4 oz dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • Optional: green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Prepare custard
    Heat cream, milk, and half the sugar.
  2. Whisk yolks
    Beat yolks with sugar, temper, and return to the pan. Cook until slightly thickened.
  3. Flavor
    Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract (and coloring if desired).
  4. Chill
    Refrigerate at least 4 hours.
  5. Churn and add chocolate
    Freeze in an ice cream machine. In the final minutes, stir in chopped chocolate.

  • Use peppermint, not spearmint, extract.
  • For smoother shards, melt chocolate, drizzle it in during churning, and let it freeze into flakes.
