Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies are a timeless favorite, beloved for their soft, chewy centers and slightly crisp edges. The balance of buttery dough and rich chocolate chips makes them irresistible for both children and adults. Perfect for snacks, desserts, or gift-giving, these cookies are simple to make and full of comforting flavors.

Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup (165g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (340g) semisweet chocolate chips

Optional: 1 cup (100g) chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare pans
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. Mix dry ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream butter and sugars
In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, mixing well.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients
Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips (and nuts, if using). Avoid overmixing to maintain a tender texture.
  5. Scoop and shape cookies
Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto prepared baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake
Bake for 9–12 minutes, until edges are golden but centers remain soft. Cool on sheets for 2 minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Tips for the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Chill dough for 30 minutes before baking to prevent spreading.
  • Use high-quality chocolate chips for richer flavor.
  • Slightly underbake for soft, chewy centers; cookies continue to cook while cooling.
  • Rotate baking sheets halfway for even browning.
