Teriyaki Chicken Recipe

Teriyaki Chicken is a popular Japanese dish featuring tender chicken glazed with a sweet and savory teriyaki sauce. Its caramelized exterior and juicy interior make it ideal for dinner with rice or noodles.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) boneless chicken thighs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mirin
  • 2 tablespoons sake or water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season chicken
    Pat chicken dry and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Cook chicken
    Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken 4–5 minutes per side until browned.
  3. Prepare sauce
    Mix soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger. Pour over chicken and simmer until thickened.
  4. Serve
    Slice chicken, drizzle with sauce, garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve with rice or vegetables.

Tips for the Best Teriyaki Chicken

  • Use thighs for juicier meat.
  • Reduce sauce to desired thickness.
  • Can also broil for slight caramelization.
